Sun City & Lost City - History

Sun City is an internationally famous casino resort, also called as the Las Vegas of southern Africa. It lies next to a tranquil lake in the bush-covered Pilanesberg mountain range, in the middle of an extended savannah in the North West province. The spacious entertainment area used to be part of the former homeland Bophuthatswana. The formal independence of the homeland made it possible to set up this complex quite close to the population centres Johannesburg and Pretoria – only an hour and a half by car.

The legend of The Lost City ... if that centuries before tall ships were ever dreamed about - long before the dawn of a western civilization - a tribe from northern Africa brought their proud traditions of mighty architecture, luxurious hospitality and love of nature to an ancient volcanic crater they called the Valley of the Sun. An earthquake ruined the magnificent city they had created and forced the people to flee, but today it has been "discovered" and "restored" to its former splendour as The Lost City at Sun City.

The Lost City is one of the most exciting, innovative and dramatically different tourist attractions in the world, with the Palace as the focus. It based on a legendary lost civilization and is a truly magnificent edifice of soaring columns, intricate mosaics and animal sculptures. Visit the Palace and enjoy its stunning architecture and its re-creation of an age-old mythical civilization.

The name of Sun City & Lost City now stands for luxurious hotels, beautifully laid-out water gardens, excellent golf courses, unusual gambling halls, exclusive casinos and first-class entertainment shows.
